About Us

We'd like to share our story with you. From humble beginnings we have evolved into this little family of our own. Every staff member is passionate about their job and every patient is a priority.

Our background 

The clinic was established in 1999 by Dr Marienus Trouw with one embryologist and a registered nurse.

Over the years Pretoria Fertility Centre have evolved to become a leading fertility centre in South Africa. We constantly invest in equipment with the latest technology. Our strength lies in our teamwork.

Every employee at the centre is experienced and strong emphasis is placed on continuous training. Our doctors, embryologists and nurses all attend local and international congresses on a regular basis.

SASREG accredited clinic

PTA Fertility Centre is a SASREG (Southern African Society of Reproductive Medicine and Gynecological Endoscopy) accredited clinic. SASREG governs the fertility quality care in Reproductive Medicine.

Dr Marienus Trouw

Dr Trouw studied Medicine at the University of Pretoria and qualified as a gynecologist in 1994. He decided to remain at the university for a further two years, where he worked in the infertility clinic. Dr Trouw completed infertility & endoscopic training in Leuven, Belgium as well as in Copenhagen, Denmark.

He is associated with the university and is the academic head of the reproductive unit at Steve Biko Academic Hospital, actively involved in training reproductive medicine specialists. Dr Trouw is regularly requested to act as speaker at congresses and other academic gatherings nationally and internationally.

His passion for reproductive medicine ignited early on in his training. Dr Trouw has never stopped learning about the fertility field and becomes truly excited about new developments and research in the fertility field.


Dr Anneen Venter

She obtained her MBChB with distinction in 2008 at the University of Pretoria, whereafter she worked at Tembisa hospital for her internship and community service from 2009 to 2011.

Dr Venter is currently registered for a fellowship in reproductive medicine. She has a passion for infertility, endocrinology and laparoscopic surgery and will consult patients with gynaecological, obstetric and infertility needs. On a personal note, she is married with a pigeon pair of toddler twins. She cherishes spending time with her family, travelling and creative arts.

She commenced registrarship in 2012 at the University of Pretoria. The College of Medicine awarded her with both the GP Charlewood Medal for the highest achievement in Part 1 of the FCOG 2011 examination and the Daubenton Medal for the highest achievement during Part 2 of the 2015 FCOG examination. She completed her MMed (O&G) in April 2016 with distinction.

Our Personnel

Our personnel are hand-picked individuals with a passion for helping others and a heart of gold. They are determined in their efforts to help and want to treat every patient with love and kindness.

Lizette White

I have been a registered nurse since 1996. I started my career as a midwife for 12 years after which I took the first step into the exciting world of fertility. I love working with people and being part of the journey towards conception.

Rhynette van Rensburg

I have been a registered nurse with Midwifery since 1995. I worked in General Theatre as scrub nurse for a gynaecologist. I love my work and am addicted to the feeling of miracles because that is what we tend to deliver. I love every day.


Linmarie Venter

After graduating with a degree in Reproductive Biology at the Central University of Technology in 2009, I joined the PTA Fertility team.
Working as a senior embryologist since then and having gone through IVF myself gave me a unique understanding and appreciation for my profession.

Elsie McDonald

I am a Biologist with a passion for Human Reproduction. I strive to excel by practising ethical and clinically proven medicine. During the last 23 years in this field, I was involved in more than 12 254 IVF cycles.

Ruan de Bruin

I recently joined the team at Pretoria Fertility Clinic after completing my HPCSA accredited embryology internship. As an embryologist I have the privilege of enriching people’s lives by helping them achieve one of their biggest dreams.

Wouter Minaar

I studied medicine at the University of Stellenbosch and qualified in 2010. I’ve provided conscious sedation at Pretoria Fertility Cenre since 2015 for minor gynaecological related procedures such as oocyte retrieval, office hysteroscopy, insertion and removal of Mirena’s.


Tanya Kukard

I have been a member of the Pretoria Fertility team since 2014. I have over 15 years of experience in a gynaecological practice.
I love working with the patients from the start of their treatment until the end. It is my goal to make sure that every patient feels comfortable and not just like a number at our clinic.


Chantel Ludick

I am a financial accountant who believes one should always be friendly and kind towards all people. My motto in life is to keep things simple and neat for a sufficient outcome.


Junelize Wittstock

I have been with the PTA Fertility family for 2 years. I am patient-focused, detail-oriented and have a passion for helping people make their dreams a reality.

Cleaning Staff

All our staff play an important role in making our centre function at its best and provide you with the best service. You may not see these staff members as they’re working behind the scenes, but without them we would be lost!

Johanna Moletse

I have been working at the clinic since 1997. I get to know patients and see the babies grow up. I love my work and tend to become friends with the patients.

Rosy Mahlangu

I have been working at the Netcare Pretoria East Hospital for the past 12 years and personally underwent IVF. I understand what patients are going through and try to make it easier for them.

Our Lab

Our labs are extremely hygienic and only authorised staff are ever allowed in this area. We have state-of-the-art equipment and machinery to perform the miracles we do every day.
